Remembering Olivia

Very sad, Olivia got sick on Saturday and died Sunday late afternoon. She did not seem that sick and we are just shocked by it. Her presence is very missed. Jimmy has grown accustomed to her little dances around his feet and the sound of her distinctive hopping across the wood floor. I miss her coming out and joining the flurry of desire when its time for everyone to eat. I miss her little playful, joyful spirit.

We loved her well and showed her a good community while she was here. She is a reminder that we should live each moment as if it is our last because you don't know when that will be. And she really did that, she lived strong! Of coarse as we grieve our loss it is impossible to not remember Oliver and how much Olivia helped him while he was here. They really were quite a pair.

Friend or Fowl

It was a fowl day this morning on our morning chore run. First we saw these little chicks at the Farmer's Market. Maxine sniffed them but then wanted nothing to do with them. While I took this picture I could hear Max snarling at another dog that rubbed her the wrong way (easy to do!).

Later, while doing our aniMeals route (taking cat and dog food to people who would not be able to feed them if they didn't get any assistance), we caught these roosters staring us down. They lived next to the house we were delivering food to. Do you think they crow at the crack of dawn? Would you want roosters living next to you???

Houston Dog Show

Maxine attended this years Houston Dog Show on behalf of the Greyhound Pets of America (GPA). She is shown here sporting her fancy Texas stars collar and her DONATE GPA shirt.

She hated every minute of it! The loud noises and all the darn dogs. We were supposed to be there four hours but Maxine was DONE after two.

She is still recovering from the stress of the Houston Dog Show!

Dog Collars

My mother-in-law Rosie has been in town. She and I love to do projects together and this one was a real challenge: dog collars!

We made seven of them. Maxine was our reluctant model. We would finish one and call her in to show it off. She didn't really show it off too well, mostly she tried to get out of the room as soon as possible.

We shared one with her friend Marley, hopefully to cheer her up in her convalescence.

Trees

Maxine has the pleasure of watching the backyard take shape. This weekend we planted two oak trees. What a huge difference it makes. We also filled in the dirt where the concrete used to be. Next week we get the sod.

But this week - DIGGING! Now that there is plenty of dirt to spare Maxine has been digging her little heart out. Hopefully she is well aware the digging party will be over when the sod is laid.

I don't think she knows this yet!

Marley's Story

Maxine's best friend Marley jumped through a window! Such a sad story - the parents were away and when they got home Marley was through the window!

She bled a lot and had to go to the emergency room. Then she had to have emergency surgery! Now she is obviously safe and very sad to have such a big cast on her paw.

Sorry Marley! We will miss play time the next few weeks while you heal.

The Dreamer

Miss Stubbs

This may be a difficult picture to make out. The images on the wall are of one of the CD's Jimmy created with footage for the animals. But the better image is the sillhouette far in the distance. Maxine has not taken a liking to this house and although in this scene a big bed is right in the middle of the floor where the camera is, she is sitting on tile right beside the door wanting to go. So stubborn!

Action!

These are some great action shots with Maxine and her best friend Marley. It is amazing how agile she is!

How cunning!

And then so tired!

4th of July

Thanks (I guess) Judi Hoefs for sending the festive outfit all the way from Boston, MA. Maxine feels like the bell of the ball in this get up.

Lettuce Lovers

It is well documented here that Simone has pica, a dysfunctional eating habit which causes one to eat non edible items (which for a cat lettuce can be included in that list). She is obsessed with Olivia's ability to eat lettuce and how she always seems to have a stash of something. For example, today she ate herself silly on plain old hay that is kept beside Olivia's litter.

Clearly here the picture tells the story. Simone tries to steal a piece but Olivia grabs the whole darn ball of lettuce!

Grocery Chores

There is nothing like a little bit of help bringing in the groceries when you get home from the store.

There is no arguing with one thing: cats do like bags!
