Wee Marley

Oh my gosh! We just received the greatest photo's from Marley's people of when she was a pup! Good thing too, because the Black Radishes and Maxine are doing EXACTLY what they did last night. Each of them are on the same spot doing the same thing. Boring!

This first picture was one of my favorites. I like the angle and the lighting and I love that Marley is eating a stick. She still loves to eat sticks!

I love how Marley looks like she hasn't grown into her ears yet! They look bigger than her bottom. She is so stinking cute!

Some of our best pictures of Marley are of her looking out windows. I wonder if this one was one of the two windows she would jump out of in 2008?

Isn't she a beautiful dog?

Lulu the Leach

Lulu loves the radiator! This morning after everyone ate she made her way back to the radiator. She slept there despite the fact it was aready turned off! She is such a heat leach.

She LOVES a warm spot!

A Day in the Life

I have been sitting in our big leather chair since I got home reading an amazing book. Jimmy is traveling. Everyone is trying to adjust to his energy being gone. It has been a long time since he had to travel for work. Quietly, the cats all found some place to rest with me while I read (except Simone who you see here loyally sleeping on top of Jimmy's desk).

Felix went to the arm of the other chair.

Lulu sat in a clam right in the middle of the front room.

Where is Maxine in all of this?

Where she always is, sleeping like a princess on "her" bed!

Sunday Morning Lazy Bones

I can't imagine that this kind of lounging around is what the cats do every day, all day but this is exactly where we found them when we got home from the gym! Lounging around (Lulu on Jimmy's pants!) with not a care in the world.

Big lazy bones!

Guess who joined them not long after we took that first picture?

MAXINE!

Sushi Cat

Simone had to gulp back the tears when she heard this beautiful sushi Jimmy made would NOT be shared with the gatolinos! Jimmy discovered a Japanese store way out past beltway 8 and Westheimer. It is a long way from our normal Sat am chores, but if you want to make your own sushi it is the way to go! They also have the items you need for tempura, which I made tonight. His sushi was out of this world. I used a wasabi paste we bought at the Japanese market and it was SUPER hot! Simone will never get over not even getting a scrap of sushi. Unless Jimmy snuck her some on the side that I didn't know about . . . .

Maxine and the Houston Marathon

Maxine sported her "racing shirt" today when we went to the side lines of the Houston Marathon to root on our friend Kelli Applebaum. The racers got a kick out of a greyhound at a marathon race and Maxine trembled to the loud sounds of encouraging techno music.

We had a great time waiting to see Kelli! When we finally did Jimmy went running out there with his cow bell ringing wildly. It was great fun!

Maxine's favorite part was coming home, taking her t-shirt off and getting up on the couch exhausted, as if SHE were the one who just ran a marathon.

Sun Patch Girls

Simone did not even hiss at Lulu as she weaseled into Simone's sun patch this morning. Maybe she is getting more tolerant as she gets older? Only time will tell!

Big Bone

Maxine got a big bone this afternoon! Doesn't she look like she would attack me if I got too close to her new treasure? Naw, she doesn't growl at us when we approach her food but you can bet she would if another dog tried to steal it!

Friday Night Special

Maxine had another great Friday night with Marley Bob. Even though it was very cold, with the chiminea going and blankets for everyone we were just fine.

Marley and Max played hard all night. We opened the window while we ate delicious Jambalaya inside so they could jump in and out of the house. They ran and chased each other and had a blast.

Jimmy and Marley had fun together. Look at Marley getting all worked up because of Jimmy! Or is it the other way around?

Well, we are enjoying our cold days and peppy dogs. The heat and humidity will come soon enough! The dogs will become lethargic and barely play together in the long days of summer.

Unlikely Duo

Yes, its cold here. But not cold enough that Simone and Maxine should be cuddled up together! I think they are both being stubborn about the bed. Simone feels like she has staked out the spot, feline style, and she owns the bed. Max knows that's her bed so she just jumps right in.

Well, to be honest with you, often if they try to get in the bed together and they touch paws or something they will both go scrambling away as if they touched a leper.

Otherwise, they are cool.

Rubber Band Rhumba

This morning while we were reading the paper we heard an explosive, on-going ruckus coming from the bathroom. We thought it was Lulu doing one of her loco dances, running up and down furniture and basically acting like a nut ball. Or perhaps Felix was doing one of his bathtub shuffles, running really really fast into the bathroom, leaping into the empty bathtub, rubbing his paws wildly on the tub and then leaping put with equal intensity.

But this time . . .it wasn't Lulu and it wasn't Felix . . . it was Simone!

Simone had found a rubber band that comes from a bunch of asparagus and was throwing it up into the air, catching it, sitting on it, batting it across the room. Basically she was acting like it was her prey that she proudly caught (and promptly played with).

Arctic Front

We are supposed to get an arctic front later this week. Starting Saturday this weekend we saw another decline in temperature, as I understand it not related to the future arctic front.

No mind what the weather man says, Lulu knows what she wants! Extra warmth and cozy blankets. She is ready for the arctic front or her next nap.

Jazz Cat

Jimmy was listening to some music Friday night and Lulu just HAD to get in on the hot cuts. Lulu loves these little crawl spaces, nooks and crannies.

She was in particular impressed with the CD Unk Z sent us last week. An amazing collection, a serious accomplishment!

Lulu likes to pretend she is the cat that drug the 40 lb. dog into the house!

Sunshine Daydream

Sunday afternoon I caught Simone stretching to soak in every piece of her Sunday morning sun patch. Doesn't she look warm and happy?

The first two days of Rosie's visit it was warm and sunny, about 75 degrees. We sat outside and enjoyed the warm air. She could hardly believe it after coming from the Boston snow! But Monday the weather turned cold and by nightfall it was 39 degrees!

Such quickly changing weather we have here in Houston!

Do you wish you were laying in a sun patch right now?

Fight over Rosie's Bed

Rosie was visiting us from a long trip to Boston and New York. This was the little bed we made for her in the office. As soon as we put the final blanket down the cats started fighting over the territory.

Who do you think finally won?

Felix did! Probably just because he was the most stubborn and the most mean!

Blanket Cave

Lulu LOVES to bury herself deep into blankets. She saw this stack of blankets and sniffed out an entrance while Felix looked on. Once she was burrowed inside, Felix started poking around wondering why the blankets were moving. But then she got really comfortable, warm and quiet and Felix couldn't hear or see her. But I could! Can you see her little tail poking out of the blanket cave????
