Garage Sale Cats

After our Food for Seniors volunteer route we ran across a garage sale and on a whim stopped to look around. They had a few cats and the black dog you can kind of see to the right in this picture. The cat was really cute, very fluffy and white.

Even though we didn't get any pictures of the other cat, we did leave with a little surprise for Maxine!

Two Maxine Paws in Heather's Garden

M & M

Maxine had a slumber party with her best friend Marley. Isn't this a beautiful picture of Marley? The sun streaming down on her makes her look quite ethereal.

It was a short visit but very good. We finally listened to Leslie (one of Marley's people) and brought the crate over. We had to go to our Citizen's Academy class that night so we put her in the crate. She was so calm and good when we got back!

It is so funny how the two of them switch beds. Notice how Maxine is crossing her paws like Marley does?

An Herb Garden

Max helped me and Jimmy plant our herb garden. You can see our container garden here in front of Max with our loads of soil and mulch to the left. Jimmy also used the opportunity to fill all of Max and Marley's holes and plant some sod.

Since we planted our container garden last September, after taking the Urban Harvest classes on organic gardening, we have loved having our home grown fresh herbs to use in cooking.

Since we have been successful, we decided to build a raised bed and transplanted the containers into the bed and planted some new herbs. We added thyme and sage and added lots more basil and cilantro. Basil is the hardest one to grown, although we did transplant a nice looking lemon basil we have had since the beginning.

We also branched out into chili peppers (serranos and jalapenos) and am taking a stab at tomatoes. We continue to use organic methods using a liquid nutrient rich solution of neem, orange oil, molasses, garlic oil and seaweed. We will see how it goes!

Mutt Strutt Houston Airport 2009

Saturday was quite a day. We woke up at 6:30 to get to IAH Airport for the SPCA fundraising event called Mutt Strutt. Some people do a 5K but most people and their canine's do a 1 mile walk right on the tarmac with airplanes landing close by.

This picture was a huge fire truck they had out at the airport. It is a lot bigger than most fire trucks because it is there for potential airplane fires!

You can see the planes landing behind the first group of walkers. There were all kinds of dogs at the event: big dogs, little dogs, lazy dogs, hyper dogs and the biggest number of dogs were pooping dogs! The tarmac was a mess.

And some dogs didn't walk at all!

This is Max with a Continental plane behind her. We were near the end of the walk at this point. It was all round a good time and the Leg-Humpers team, with team leader Jimmy Guerrero, raised $274.00 for the SPCA.

Our finale picture is the leg-humpers mascot photo!

Wiley Maxine in the Hood

Maxine has great fun in the back yard. When she is not digging holes to make my husband mental she is barking at dogs that pass by. It is so funny when she does this, it looks like she could just slip herself underneath that gate! I am not sure what she thinks she would do if she COULD get out.

Most likely she would run away!

Felix and the Pea

A stack of clean clams was too much of a temptation for Felix, he just had to sleep on the stack just like the story of the princess and the pea. I am sure he did NOT feel the pea under the big stack of mattresses!

Nino is Back!

Wed night Max and I had the pleasure of a visit from our old friends Nino and Alix. Can you believe what a grey beard Nino has become? He is now 9 years old (three years older than Max).

They sort of played awkwardly. He would wind himself up with his playful turns and Max would kind of look at him like what are you doing. Then an hour later Max would be in her play position trying to get him to play and he didn't seem interested at all.

Maybe next time they will remember how to play, those nutty dogs!

Nino had a big bruise on his stomach, hopefully he is healing just fine.

A Day in the Life

This is what everyone was doing today when I got home.

I tried to take Maxine for a walk but the school children were still out playing in the play ground and she could not tolerate their playful noise. She stopped and would not go any further so we went home. When I let her in the backyard, our neighbor had the electric saw going so she wanted back in immediately. I did brush her before she came in so you can tell she looks beautiful but is giving me the ojo's!

Predictably, Felix ran straight into the bathroom when I walked in the door at 4:10 and looked at me expectantly (for dinner!). He is approximately two hours early! But he is always ready@

I had thrown the mail down on the ground while I took Max off her leash. No sooner had it dropped and Simone was already gnawing on a piece of plastic wrapped around our Bon Apetit magazine.

Lulu was just chilling by the skateboarding gear by the back door looking cute close to a sun patch. She looks like she is trying to figure a way she can jump on that skateboard and go flying across the wood floor!

Motorcycle Cats?

It is nice to see the cats supporting our latest hobby, as they get inside the two motorcycle helmet boxes. Another picture in yet the on-going study of the question: why do cats like boxes so much?

Do you have a guess?
